A tip when shopping at the greengrocer

Choose avocados that have dark green to black skin (green avocados may still be unripe). Press them with your hand to check their texture. They must be tender and more or less soft.

A tip to preserve them at home

When they are ready to eat, you can store them in the fridge. But if they are still green and firm, leave them at room temperature. In these cases, to accelerate ripening, you can put them next to a banana or an apple (they produce ethylene, a natural gas that accelerates this process).
